Born and raised in San Francisco, a graduate of UCLA and the University of Vienna, Spencer lived and worked in New York City for 20 years, and now resides the Twin Cities.

Known mainly for his work in theater, music, film and as a producer in the field of non-profit arts, Spencer was the first American to join the international cast of Slava’s Snowshow, beginning in 2004. He has appeared on Broadway, Off-Broadway, on television and in film.

He recently completed 1600 hours (three years) of training to become a certified teacher of the Alexander Technique, with lessons now being given in Edina, MN. He continues to teach Tai chi as well, sharing the insights and skills gained in over 15 years of continuous study with teachers largely from the Yang family tradition.

A professional actor since high school, Spencer has fulfilled the promise of “Jack of All Trades, Master of None, Oftentimes Better than Master of One” within the arts: as director, producer, performer in other languages (French, Yiddish, German, Spanish, and Silent Clown), writer, developer, stage manager, lighting designer, sound designer, composer of instrumental music, writer of songs, voiceover artist, fundraiser, script editor, film editor, and probably a few more things that momentarily escape mention. A multi-instrumentalist on accordions and strings, he began as a pianist and continues to learn to play new instruments.
