Writing about myself in the third person is fun, but only for a moment.
Spencer David Chandler was born and raised in San Francisco, attended UCLA and the University of Vienna, lived in New York City for 20 years, and now resides in a suburb of Minneapolis. He was named for Winston Spencer Churchill, who was both a lion and a lamb. Ponder that, if you like.
Known mostly for his work in theater, music, and film, Spencer is drawn to projects that combine the chance to learn new things, make people (himself included) smile, and help folks get through the day feeling a little lighter and a little more encouraged. He has been practicing Tai chi for 12 years (as of this writing) and now teaches as a community service. He plays more instruments than can be listed easily, some with basic proficiency and some professionally. He speaks fluent German (though it’s getting rusty) and is reclaiming Yiddish, thanks to working on several productions with the Folksbiene and a more recent subscription to Duolingo Plus. He built a Duplex with his bare hands (sort of) in the midst of the pandemic and might not ever do that again. But he might.
He was the first American to join the international cast of clowns in Slava’s Snowshow, has been on Law & Order, won awards at film festivals, written a screenplay that almost got produced and is still a damn good read, produced songs that have yet to be heard, and keeps on keeping on because, after all, what alternative is there?
